How to set up Targeting in TikTok?

Before you start, you need to get acquainted with what options for targeting TikTok offers us:
1. Customizable audiences (retargeting to site visitors, list of buyers, or users of a branded app);
2. Demographic characteristics (age, gender, geo by country and region, languages, interests);
3. Devices (connection via a mobile network or Wi-Fi, the carrier, the price of the phone / tablet, the operating system and even its version).

Creating an ad before launching the target
The first thing you need to do before launching is to create a commercial that meets the rules for placing ads in TikTok:
- roller length 5–60 sec.;
- “weight” of the video up to 500 MB;
- allowed formats: .mov, mp4,.mpeg, .avi, .gif;
- resolution for vertical rollers 720x1280, horizontal — 1280x720, square — 640x640 (aspect ratio, respectively: 9:16, 1:1 and 16:9).
To ensure that the image elements are not cut off during the display, you should leave gaps at the edges:
- 130 pixels from the top;
- 484 pixels at the bottom;
- 44 pixels on the left;
- 140 pixels on the right.

An ad in TikTok can also be accompanied by a 12–80-character text and a call to action.
Now let’s move on to how to launch our ad through the TikTok advertising cabinet.
Targeting in TikTok via the advertising cabinet
You can register an advertising account for TikTok by following the link. You will be able to enter the advertising cabinet, where in the upper right corner there is a button “Create an ad”. When creating a profile for targeted advertising in TikTok, you need to select country and click in the Business, promote goods/services window.

After filling out the basic form, you will receive an email with a questionnaire that you need to fill out in English and send a reply letter. Or you can choose a call for verification, and a TikTok employee will call the number specified during registration.
After completing the registration, log in to the advertising cabinet, click on the “Campaigns” section, and then click on the “Create” button.

The next step is to create an ad. You need to specify a link to which users will be redirected. Enter a brief description of the business, upload a square profile picture, select the appropriate category and enter the keywords that will help the app filter impressions. You can also disable comments at this stage.
The “Targeting” section when setting up ads in TikTok will allow you to set the audience characteristics mentioned above.
After selecting the demographics of our audience, you need to set a daily or total budget limit for a specific ad. Dayparting is a display schedule that determines the start and end dates of an ad campaign. Delivery Type — the speed of spending the budget, the mode of its consumption evenly by day or accelerated with maximum prices.

We also recommend setting an optimization Goal, which allows you to monitor the effectiveness of your ads. Choose which indicators to use — conversions, impressions, and clicks.

After adding the required amount to the budget, the advertising campaign in TikTok will be checked and launched.
